The MeToo Movement
In May 2018 (Babae Ako - I'm a woman.) a women's rights movement in the Philippines was inspired by a politician's rants about women's rights. The movement launched in May 20, 2018 as a social media campaign using hashtag #BabaeAko but live protests were later held. The founders of the movement were included among the "25 Most Influential People on the Internet in 2018" list by Time Magazine.
Women and girls must be protected from discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, marital status and sexual preference. Governments have a responsibility to ensure that no element of government is encouraging rape, incest or the violation of women and girl's rights.
